Efforts at the Fujisawa Plant in Kanagawa Prefecture

The status of efforts

NSK Micro Precision Co., Ltd. Fujisawa Plant contributes to the high-tech sector through unit products using its technologies, including globally-acclaimed ultra-high quality miniature ball bearings in Shonan area blessed with the natural environment. In addition, we focus on the "harmony with the natural environment" to convey the natural environment to future generations and conduct business activities to strive for environmental preservation.

We have achieved chlorine-free.

In the fiscal year 2004 activities, we were able to completely eliminate vinyl tapes and switch to alternative products of chlorine-based processing fluids, and we were able to achieve chlorine-free in all of the products.

We have achieved zero emissions.

As a result of promoting activities to achieve zero emissions (landfill disposal volume is less than 1% of total emissions such as waste) this year, we could achieve by March 2005.

Our factory produces miniature products, and since it generates a lot of various waste products little by little, it was very difficult for us in terms of separation and transportation. For that reason, we worked to solve the problem with the help of NSK Fujisawa Plant near our factory. Especially, we are promoting activities to achieve the target of recycling rate of 98% through joint transportation such as waste filters, waste whetstones and waste fluorescent tubes generated from the grinding process etc. which was difficult to recycle.

As a result of promoting activities to achieve zero emissions (landfill disposal volume is less than 1% of total emissions such as waste) this year, we could achieve by March 2005.

Contribution to the local community

Our factory has participated in the cleanup activities on Shonan Beach since the fiscal year 2002. We will continue to participate in this event which is held on the last Sunday of May every year.

Efforts at Matsukawa Plant in Nagano Prefecture

The status of efforts

NSK Micro Precision Co., Ltd. Matsukawa factory is located in Ina Valley in the southern part of Nagano Prefecture, with magnificent views over the Tenryu River, east to the Southern Alps in the eyes, the Central Alps Mountains in the west and the rich in the natural environment, we mainly manufacture miniature ball bearings with an outer diameter of 10 mm or less.

We are aiming to contribute to environmental preservation through product creation with the less environmental load to convey the local natural environment to future generations.

Established a new recycling center for appropriate waste management.

We were able to eliminate organic solvents (dichloromethane), which had been conventionally used as a cleaning solution for a long time, and switched to a substitute.

Besides this, we have been aggressively pursuing energy conservation such as control of air compressor and improvement of electric power facilities, but as demand is recovering, we are promoting the improvement of energy efficiency by aggregating facilities and production time.

And we established a temporary storage location for waste for proper management of waste. When reusing it effectively, it was named as "recycling center" instead of "waste place" from the viewpoint of resources.

We are aiming to improve the recycling rate while frequently communicating with waste disposal contractors in the shape of the storage container that is convenient for picking up and how to dispose of waste.

Improve environmental consciousness of employees through ISO14001 certification

To develop these activities on an ongoing basis, we established an environmental management system and acquired ISO 14001 certification in April 2004. In developing environmental activities, it is very important to raise consciousness among all employees, but they could come to recognize they could also contribute to environmental conservation not only by reducing paper, garbage, and electricity but also by improving quality and productivity that had been done in the past. A comparison of the consciousness surveys conducted last July and March this year also showed that a lot of employees' environmental awareness is rising.

In this neighborhood, Iida City hosting the Environment Local Governing Council this year, and there are many companies that are extremely impressed with environmental activities from the early period, we are thinking it is also important to expand the range of activities by actively exchanging information with local communities.
